I couldn’t have been more excited when I learned that this image took first place in the Corals division of the Lauderdale-by-the-Sea BugFest 2015 photo contest. I have learned a lot since taking this photo, but I am always entranced when I see it – the detail of nature’s hard infrastructure, the soft polyps tucked perfectly in their respective ridges, and the geometry only Mother Nature could conjure up.
