M9 – Red Gradient Problem Solved

ImagingM9

I imaged the southern globular M9 in March, 2015, and never sent it out because of a horrendous red contamination of my data.  At the time, I was using the truss only (no shroud) but didn’t think that was a problem then.  Last month, I performed a series of images to make a movie and noticed bad red lights in the observatory which I thought may contribute to the red contamination.  So I put on the shroud and you can see as the scope images M9 all the red light on the shroud underside!  Imagine all that red light (from my mount power indicator) shining directly onto my secondary mirror!  The shroud protected the data I took in June, 2015, and compare with and without shroud M9 images!  Now, I use the shroud and have blocked the violating lights!  Watch the video above to see the observatory ‘pesky’ lights get taken care of over a course of 3 nights.
