Have you ever seen a fish with wings?  How about a fish with fingers?  Well, the Flying Gurnard has both.  One of the most distinct looking creatures in our local waters, the Gurnard can be seen foraging the bottom for a meal, using its ‘fingers’ (pictured below) to scrape away sand and rubble to find crustaceans below the sediment.  Its ‘wings’ (pictured above) extend when it becomes aware of potential predators, making it look much bigger.  They are often seen cruising in pairs under the bridge, where the bottom is covered with their favorite food sources.
