Mushroom Scorpionfish (Scorpaena inermis) with Reticulated Hermit Crab (Iridopagurus reticulatus) friend – Blue Heron Bridge, Riviera Beach, Fl

I really enjoy studying the eyes of underwater creatures.  Beautiful patterns, colors, and shapes adorn the eyes of many fish, crustaceans, and invertebrates.  This Mushroom Scorpionfish has tiny upside-down mushrooms framing its eye, while its little hermit friend in the foreground sports horizontal bars across its complex eyes.  Although there are obvious barriers for communication, interactions with these animals are often poignant due to the eye contact that occurs.
